Ali Etemadi has been part of the Materiability Research Group at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences as a researcher since 2024. He is a computational designer, specializing in creating complex geometries and fabrication processes. His research focuses on the development, design, and fabrication of furniture using large-scale FGF 3D printing. He received his Master’s degree in Architecture from DIA at Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in 2023. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Art University of Tehran in 2017.

In 2023, he joined a team from Texas Tech University, led by Dr. Sina Mostafavi, as the Computational Design R&D Lead, to design, fabricate, and assemble a pavilion that featured concrete robotic 3D printing and a structurally optimized lattice structure for the Venice Architecture Biennale 2023. For his Master’s thesis, he developed a fully computational design-to-fabrication system to create environmentally performative 3D-printed shelters for refugees. He also served as an assistant in the Robotic Lab and as a course coordinator for the Generative Design course at DIA, where he gained additional experience working with KUKA robots and exploring multi-objective optimization. His journey with computational design began in 2017 at Bracket Design Studio in Tehran, where he started experimenting with its possibilities. Later, at KAAV Studio as a furniture designer, he brought these ideas into hands-on experience. Since then, he has been continuously expanding his knowledge and experience in every aspect of the limitless realm of computational design, focusing on the transition from the digital to the physical world.
