Mycelium Lab

The Mycelium Laboratory (Building 07, Room 102) is dedicated to materials research and enables the development of state-of-the-art, sustainable materials and composites using living mycelia. This pioneering facility is equipped with a climate chamber designed for the optimal cultivation of mycelium, a sterile workstation with an autoclave for precise inoculation procedures, and a cooling depot for the preservation of pure mycelium. Through practical experimentation and interdisciplinary research, the laboratory enables students and researchers to develop innovative mycelium-based materials.

The lab was established through the support of the ZIM-funded Mycelium Bike Box research project, where we collaborate with the woodworking manufacturer Bächer Bergmann GmbH on material innovations for cargo and transport bikes. This partnership places the Mycelium Lab at the forefront of materials science, advancing the practical application of mycelium-based solutions in various design and technological contexts.
