digital matter intelligent construction
The project is developed within the framework of flexible translucent and conductive based architecture and research that works on the design of buildings or elements that react to certain environmental conditions or users needs.
A construction design approach based on flexibility rather than on stiff-members and movable joints is yet to establish itself. In terms of today’s building industry role models are scarce. However, soft and flexible structures are rampant in nature and indicate the promising potential of this construction principle. It is therefore considered reasonable to combine research on flexible responsive structures and materials; with the goal of understanding flexible structures and transferring or scaling up, to implement their underlying principles into responsive devices and structures.
Developing a responsive membrane that speculates on the future of a homogenesis system and alternative energy sources while exploring digital design methodologies. Elastic-Responsive structures which take a form defining approach a step further by considering that the deformation process can also be reversible thus allowing the creation of adaptive building systems.
Buildings are historically static in nature and non-responsive elements. However, continued advances in materials and technologies provide opportunities to innovative and shape the future of architecture.
